About me

Consciously rooted in a queer, intersectional feminist, neurodiversity-affirming stance.

I'm Sorrel Pitcher, an HPCSA registered Clinical Psychologist based in Cape Town. I offer a warm and compassionate therapeutic space grounded in respect for your lived experience. My approach is both holistic - considering the interconnection of psyche, body, spirit, and context - and integrative, drawing on a variety of psychological theories and methods, to support your mental health.

Areas of interest

All my work is underpinned by a psychoanalytic self psychology framework. This is a relational, depth-oriented approach that emphasises the importance of early relationships and the development of a cohesive sense of self. It explores how we come to experience ourselves (self-esteem, identity, and emotional world) within the context of our earliest connections and ongoing relationships. The broader psychoanalytic approach is rooted in the belief that much of our psychological life takes place outside of  conscious awareness. By exploring unconscious patterns, especially those that manifest in our relationships, we can make space for new ways of being and relating. In this way of working, the therapeutic relationship itself becomes a valuable lens through which this exploration and healing can occur.

At the heart of my psychotherapy practice is a commitment to inclusivity, social justice, and collaborative care. I welcome individuals from all walks of life, and my practice is consciously rooted in a queer, intersectional feminist, and neurodiversity-affirming stance. I hold space for all aspects of identity, including race, gender, sexuality, class, and ability, and work with care and sensitivity to the ways these intersect with psychological experience.

Above all, I value care, consent, and connection. Together, we will explore your inner world, your relationships (past and present) and the patterns that shape your life.
